1. The Eye

1At Sāvatthī. “Bhikkhus, the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the eye is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.272 This is a template, to be filled in with the same content as in the preceding chapter. 26:9 is almost identical with 14:36, but includes as well the space element and the consciousness element. 26:10 is fully identical with 22:30. See II, n. 253. The arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the ear … of the nose … of the tongue … of the body … of the mind [229] is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

2“The cessation, subsiding, and passing away of the eye … the mind is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death.”
